Danny Tango @ The Courtyard Theatre May 2026

Set in 1980s Belfast Danny Tango is a play about love and revenge. Two best friend Isabel and Anne are champion Latin American Dancers. At fifteen, their escape from the riots and turmoil is an overindulgence in fake tan and shimmering sequins. To outdo each other is their one focus in life. Their rivalry reached new heights, however, when handsome Danny Tango, dancer extraordinaire (from Tigers Bay) arrives on the scene, who will choose to be his partner on the dance floor and perhaps, in life? Interspersed with 80’s hits such as “Lovecats” by the Cure and “Love is a Stranger” by Eurythmics we are transported back to that exciting time of youth and promise that for most of us was also filled with terrible fear.

Twenty years later and life had not gone to plan for our arch rivals. Lonely and disillusioned they agree to set aside their differences, but sparks fly when Danny Tango comes unexpectedly back into their lives. Ruthless Belfast one liners are juxtaposed with real moments of tragedy in the lives of these resilient and funny women, poor Danny Tango never stands a chance.
